I believe Overwhelm feels different to everyone. Depending on life experiences and what emotional coping strategies have been learnt. When working with clients on their overwhelm, we look at their childhood, identify what the learnt behaviours looked like and how problems were resolved or dealt with in the family. This can lead to clues on what might be going on right now. This isn’t to judge parents or passed mistakes. Its to help clients find more positive ways to manage any unwanted feelings and behaviours, leading to less overwhelm in the future.
Exploring life experiences in depth, can lead to great change and personal development over time. One client told me, ‘they felt more grown up and able to cope in their life, now they have an understanding of why they do what they do’.
